What Is a Body Fat Calculator?

A body fat calculator estimates how much of your body is made up of fat compared to muscle, bone, and water. Unlike weight alone, body fat percentage gives a clearer picture of health and fitness.

Two people can weigh the same but look and feel very different. Body fat explains why.

Why Body Fat Percentage Matters

Body fat is not bad by default. Your body needs it to function properly. Problems start when the percentage is too high or too low. Knowing your body fat helps you set realistic fitness goals and track progress correctly.

How This Body Fat Calculator Works

This calculator uses body measurements instead of guesswork. By combining height, weight, and key circumference measurements, it estimates how much fat your body carries.

You do not need special equipment. A simple measuring tape is enough.

Formula Used in This Calculator

U.S. Navy Body Fat Formula

For Men:

Body Fat % = 86.010 × log₁₀(Waist − Neck) − 70.041 × log₁₀(Height) + 36.76

For Women:

Body Fat % = 163.205 × log₁₀(Waist + Hip − Neck) − 97.684 × log₁₀(Height) − 78.387

*All measurements are taken in the same unit (cm or inches).

Alternative Method: BMI-Based Estimation

When measurement data is limited, this calculator can use BMI for estimation:

Body Fat % = (1.20 × BMI) + (0.23 × Age) − (10.8 × Gender) − 5.4

*(Gender: Male = 1, Female = 0) This method is less precise but useful when circumference measurements aren't available.
