Glycogen Storage
Glycogen is your body's primary stored form of carbohydrates, serving as a quick energy source during exercise and fasting. It's stored mainly in your skeletal muscles and liver, with each tissue playing different roles in energy management.
The amount of glycogen you can store depends heavily on your muscle mass and training level. More muscle typically means more storage capacity, which can be important for endurance activities and maintaining energy levels.
The Calculation Formula
Standard Formulas
Muscle Glycogen (g) = Muscle Mass (kg) × 15
Liver Glycogen (g) = 100
Total Glycogen (g) = Muscle Glycogen + Liver Glycogen
Energy Value (kcal) = Total Glycogen × 4
These are physiological estimates. Actual storage can vary based on diet, training, and individual factors.
Example Calculations
| Body Weight | Muscle % | Muscle Glycogen (g) | Total Glycogen (g) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 70 kg | 40% | 420 | 520 |
| 80 kg | 45% | 540 | 640 |
| 90 kg | 50% | 675 | 775 |
